Fully-integrated photonic crystal-based optomechanical platforms: 3D-integration of actuation functionalities
The PhD work aims at the implementation of integrated actuation tools on chip-scale 2D photonic crystal-based optomechanical resonators. Such planar optomechanical resonators sustain two family of modes : flexural modes (in the MHz frequency range) and localized mechanical modes in the GHz frequency range, confined within the optical cavity core of diffraction-limited volume. Two schemes will be implemented: (1) electrostatic actuation of the flexural modes via electrodes placed below the photonic crystal membrane and (2) acoustic actuation of the localized modes, via surface acoustic wave transducers. These mechanical actuation tools will then be exploited to insure the oscillators stability and allow for coupled oscillators synchronization.
